Dutch Culture - Tulip Ice Cream

Is it a tulip? is it an ice cream? it's both! Tulip Ice Cream has a very special appearance for a tulip. This is what happens when you cross a double white tulip with a double red tulip.

In the beginning, tulip Ice Cream looks fresh green and later the pink-red color appears and as the flower blooms longer, the white whipped cream on top grows bigger and bigger. It is one of the most photographed tulips in the Keukenhof because of its special appearance.

But Tulip Ice Cream is also a variety that blooms late, when most other tulips have already finished blooming. So a very nice dessert for your garden in late spring. Ice Cream can be combined with its sisters 'Ice Cream Banana' and 'Ice Cream Strawberry'.

The Keukenhof Mill is a tower mill on the grounds of the Keukenhof in the Dutch town of Lisse. The mill comes from Scharmer, where it was built in 1892 as a polder mill. It was another ground sailor there.

In 1957, the mill was moved to the grounds of the Keukenhof, as a gift from the Holland-America Line. In the Keukenhof the mill only functions as an ornamental object. The mill can rotate and has a radius of 17.90 meters. It is covered with roofing felt.
